What is CELPIP?
CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is an English language test developed by Paragon Testing Enterprises, a division of the University of British Columbia. It measures English proficiency in real-life scenarios and is accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for immigration and citizenship purposes.
Versions of CELPIP
- CELPIP-General: Assesses listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. Used for permanent residency and professional designations.
- CELPIP-LS: Focuses on listening and speaking skills only. Used for citizenship and professional designations.
CELPIP-General Format
- Listening: 47-55 minutes
- Includes various sections like listening to conversations, news items, and discussions.
- Reading: 55-60 minutes
- Sections include reading correspondence, diagrams, and viewpoints.
- Writing: 53-60 minutes
- Tasks involve writing an email and responding to survey questions.
- Speaking: 15-20 minutes
- Includes tasks like giving advice, describing experiences, and making predictions.
CELPIP-LS Format
- Listening: 47-55 minutes
- Similar to CELPIP-General but without the reading section.
- Speaking: 15-20 minutes
- Similar tasks to CELPIP-General, focusing on speaking.
Fees and Registration
- CELPIP-General Fee: Approximately 12,500 INR in India (varies by location and may include additional taxes).
- Registration: Online via the CELPIP website, including profile creation, exam selection, scheduling, and payment.
Results and Scoring
- Results: Available online 4-5 days after the test.
- Score Reporting: Scores are reported on a scale of 1 to 12 for each skill area.
- Validity: Scores are valid for 2 years.
